Some days don’t go to plan…

We bought the house in October. We started renovating in November. This has been far more stressful than I’d expected. The house is large, but we have been squeezed down into a small amount of space because multiple renovation jobs are going on at one time.

We knew the palapa/roof construction was going to be disruptive. The palapa and pergola are DONE!!! The counter/bar is in, the stairs from ground to roof are done. YAY. We are paused on the roof because the tiles for that area are backordered until January.

Celebrate the little successes.

Ok, no problem. The master bedroom is currently COMPLETELY destroyed. We are leveling and retiling the whole master suite, fixing some “bubbles” in the plaster walls, adding plugs…

The “sunroom” (or, as the Basha has christened it, the solarium) got added to the job list because… things. So the bunkbeds came out. The front wall, facing the pool, came down. A balcony was added. Sliders were installed.

All of this has been taxing, however TODAY nearly put me around the bend. On Sunday water started leaking through our dining room ceiling. Not a lot, but discoloring the ceiling plaster and visible drips on the floor.

Called our builder, but it was Sunday so we shut off all water to the house until he arrived on Monday (today) with the plumber.

Short story: the previous owners had had a leak in the POOP TUBE between the two guest rooms. They did a crappy patch job and plastered over it to sell the house. Today the plumber excavated top to bottom (guest room bathroom) and bottom to top (dining room ceiling) to remove a section of waste tube, increase the drain angle, and get rid of the soggy concrete surrounding the leak. I cried. This is my dream house, and today was my waking nightmare.

The master bedroom tile should be finished this week. The screens for the sunroom should be here this week. Things are progressing – but a busted poop tube really put a damper on my excitement. I know I’ll bounce back. This life is still beyond my wildest dreams. I am a fortunate human. Today I just have to remind myself of that.
