23March chilaquiles – Ocean Café & a surprise

On the recommendation of a friend, I went to Ocean Café on Agustin Arriola this morning for the “Chilaquiles Quest”. I was a little later than usual leaving today, but it turned out to be for the best. The classic car club had a first day of spring parade along the Malecón today.

The one that got me to stop and pay attention was the Mystery Machine. All the owners/drivers were so happy to have people taking pictures of their cars. Many were handing out candy, stickers, or flowers to the people watching. It was so fun!!

Ocean Café is a small place with a great atmosphere, good music, and really good chilaquiles (and limonada mineral). I had the chilaquiles rojos, which came with 2 eggs, avocado, and refried beans. The refrieds were much better than a lot of those that I have had recently – they were darker in color and richer in flavor. The two eggs were done to perfectly medium – yolks slightly runny – yum! The salsa roja had a hint of spice and deep, rich flavor. The plate of food was more than I could eat.

Pros: fast, hot, delicious. Cons: salsa was a little watery (but really tasty). Cost: $155
