Sola adventure – Milano

Sola adventure – Milano

No, I haven’t forgotten how to spell. Sola is the feminine form of solo or “alone” in Spanish.

Three days in Milano. Three days TOTALLY in charge of every second and every decision to be made. It is exciting, exhausting, and daunting. I won’t lie, I’ve cried more than once. 😢

Duomo tour – The only tour I booked in Milan. It took me up to the roof of the Duomo to the terraces, which used to be open to the Milanese people. And for some period of time had a bar on the roof for aperativos at sunset!! A Milanese tradition.

After the terraces we went down into the cathedral. It is HUGE and magnificent. It also has more color than many medieval cathedrals – something to do with the “Mediterranean influence” using yellow and red stone.

Took the tram – I like riding above ground to see the city – to the Navigli area. It still has the few remaining canals from medieval times. It is a trendy, bar and restaurant filled, area that is popular for “aperativos”. Had a glass of wine and happened upon… (Sorry I can’t get the video to upload on my phone) https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1CT2dtWeqx/

Had a great dinner – tagliatelle with wild boar ragú and a glass of Barbera. Soo good.

HT to the Basha for the empty plate pic

Of course, while in Milan I had to go to the daVinci museum. It is really the museum of science and industry, but has a large da Vinci exhibit.

Walked for most of the day, spent time in Parco Sempione, walked to Napoleon’s Peace Arch, and enjoyed a lemon granita in 40C heat.

Reminds me of the Brandenburg gate.

Finished the day with an Italian tradition, an Aperol spritz. Very refreshing.

Last day in Milan, more art, da Vinci, and an amazing dinner. The da Vinci Codex Atlanticus is housed at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana. It was a lovely, small museum with a wide variety of paintings, sculptures, and “collections”. They also had the “cartoon” or full size rendering of Raphael’s “The School of Athens” – one of my favorite paintings.

My last evening I had dinner at the place I was staying, un posto a milano (https://share.google/k0OrGvZ3IFEqtuRRX). They are known for farm to table, low food miles cuisine. My dinner was excellent. I ate WAY too much.

First time in Milan. There was so much to see and do that I was in overload most of the time. So far the trip has been mostly good, and some melancholy. I’m learning. I am working on not assessing everything on whether or not the Basha would have liked it. I guess it is all about whether or not I like it now.
