WHO ARE WE AND HOW DID WE GET HERE?

The Basha and I have been in the PNW for the last 20+ years. We love to travel, SCUBA dive, and be warm. We have lived outside of the U.S. in the past and have known that we will eventually be full-time ex-pats. We decided that our future ex-pat selves would really enjoy Mexico. It is a large, diverse, culture-rich country with options to travel, SCUBA dive, and be warm! 😉

We started the process to get temporary residence visas in 2019 – with an eye toward eventual permanent status. We got our approval from the consulate with 6 months to enter Mexico under the canje designation to finalize our initial residence visas.

It all seemed so straightforward and easy. We had our approval, what could POSSIBLY go wrong?

All was going to plan, we got our temporary residence visas, we were learning about the city, catching a bunch of live music, getting to know people, and generally feeling good about our choice of a place to land. Then COVID-19 hit and everything changed.

Mexpats in the time of COVID.

We’ve been here over a year at this writing (Feb. 2021), our house up north is occupied – not by us, we’ve sold most of our stuff and stored the rest, and it looks like we are accidental Mexpats now.
